Quick answer: Lawn care in Oakville costs about $60 to $110 a cut for a typical suburban lot and $110 to $210 for the larger lots common south of the QEW, or $1,700 to $5,200 for a full season of 26 to 28 weekly cuts. A full-service program with cleanups, feeding and bed care runs $2,600 to $5,800. The Town requires grass, including the boulevard in front of your home, to be cut before it passes 20 cm. Halton Region does not collect grass clippings in Oakville, so a good crew mulches them back into the lawn.

Oakville lawns have a few quirks that shape how they should be cared for. The lots are bigger than in most of the GTA, the Town expects homeowners to look after the boulevard as well as the yard, and Halton will not take your clippings at the curb. Here is what lawn care costs across Oakville this year, and how the local rules change what a crew should do.

2026 lawn mowing prices in Oakville

Prices cover mowing, trimming, edging walks and driveways, and blowing hard surfaces clean, on a weekly season contract. Expect a one-off cut to cost 30% to 60% more.

Lot size Per cut (season contract) Full season, 26 to 28 cuts
Townhouse or small lot, under 2,000 sq ft of lawn $45 - $75 $1,300 - $1,900
Standard suburban, 2,000 to 5,000 sq ft $60 - $110 $1,700 - $2,800
Large lot, 5,000 to 12,000 sq ft $110 - $210 $2,900 - $5,200

Newer streets in north Oakville, Glen Abbey and River Oaks mostly fall in the standard band. Old Oakville, Morrison, Eastlake and Clearview lots are often 5,000 sq ft of lawn or more, with mature trees and long bed lines to trim, and land in the large lot band. Estate properties along Lakeshore are quoted after a walk-through.

Oakville's 20 cm rule, and the boulevard

Oakville's Lot Maintenance By-law 2023-075 requires grass and weeds to be cut, and the cuttings removed, once they pass 20 cm. It also makes every owner responsible for maintaining the boulevard in front of their property, at their own expense, to the same 20 cm limit. The Town plants and owns the boulevard trees, and the by-law forbids cutting or damaging them, so trimmers need to stay off the bark. Breaches are dealt with through the Town's Administrative Penalty By-law. If you want a pollinator or naturalized area, it has to be in the rear yard and cover no more than 25% of it, with a cut buffer strip.

Faz says: The most common damage we see on Oakville boulevards is string trimmer rings around the base of young Town trees. Once the bark is girdled the tree is finished, and it is the Town's tree. We put mulch rings around them so nothing has to be trimmed against the trunk.

Clippings and yard waste in Oakville

Halton Region lists grass clippings as unacceptable in yard waste in Oakville, at any time of year. That makes mulching mowers the default here. Halton says clippings left on the lawn can supply up to 25% of its yearly fertilizer needs, and they break down in days when the grass is cut at the right height and not too much is taken off at once. The Guelph Turfgrass Institute rule of thumb is never to remove more than a third of the blade in one cut.

Other yard waste is picked up every other week on your garbage day from early April to the second week of December. Use paper yard waste bags or open, labelled rigid containers of up to 125 L and 50 lb, and tie brush in bundles no bigger than 2 m by 1 m with branches under 7.5 cm across.

Oakville loose leaf collection, fall 2026

Oakville is one of the few places nearby with a vacuum leaf program. The Town's Loose Leaf Collection Program runs October 26 to December 4, 2026, in six weekly rounds. Zones 1, 2, 3 and 7 are collected in weeks 1, 3 and 5; zones 4, 5, 6 and 8 in weeks 2, 4 and 6; zones A, B and C in weeks 4 and 5. Rake leaves onto the boulevard or shoulder, not into the road, over catch basins or into ditches, and keep branches and stones out of the pile. Some streets are not covered, so check your zone on the Town map.

Our fall cleanups work around those dates. We blow leaves out of beds, from under shrubs and off the lawn, which should not sit under wet leaves into winter, then either pile them on the boulevard for the Town or haul them away if your zone has already been done.

Watering in Oakville

Halton is at Level 1, careful use. Halton's outdoor water use page asks odd-numbered addresses to water on odd dates and even on even, and points out that you do not need to water on every allowed day. Once or twice a week, deeply, is better for clay soils. See our summer watering schedule.

Weed control under Ontario's pesticide ban

Under Ontario's cosmetic pesticide rules, products like 2,4-D and glyphosate cannot be used to make a lawn look better. Cosmetic use is limited to active ingredients on the provincial Allowable List, which includes iron-based weed killers (FeHEDTA), corn gluten meal and soaps. Anyone paid to apply a pesticide on your property needs an Ontario exterminator licence in the Landscape class, so ask for the licence number before anyone sprays. Iron products knock back dandelions and clover for a few weeks; they do not fix the reason the weeds are there. Thin turf is the reason. A thick lawn mowed tall, fed and overseeded every fall leaves weeds very little room, which is why our programs lean on feeding and overseeding first.
