Ranges exclude concrete or paver borders, tree-root remediation and rerouting of downspouts. Every quote includes a written 8 to 15 year manufacturer warranty and a 5 year Peace Love Landscaping install warranty on the base and seams.

Turf specifications: what we install and why

• Yarn type: monofilament polyethylene for the show-face, polypropylene thatch for the low-lying green undertone. Nylon yarn is the premium and shows up in high-traffic dog runs or pet-daycare specs.
• Pile height: 30 to 40 mm for residential lawns, 20 to 25 mm for putting greens, 45 to 50 mm for pool surrounds where a lush look matters.
• Face weight: 60 to 80 oz per sq yd for pet-friendly residential. Below 50 oz reads as commercial. Above 90 oz mats fast.
• Backing: dual-layer with polyurethane coat and 100% permeable perforation pattern (typically 400-plus perforations per sq m for drainage rates above 30 inches per hour, meeting IPEMA drainage guidelines).
• Infill: Envirofill (antimicrobial coated silica sand) for pet applications, silica sand alone for standard lawn, cork-and-coconut for the fully organic build. Rubber crumb is available but we do not spec it for residential.

Base spec: the part homeowners cannot see, which decides everything

A properly installed turf base in the Hamilton/Halton clay-loam standard is 4 inches (100 mm) of 3/4 minus limestone screening compacted to 95% Standard Proctor, with a 1 to 2% slope for drainage. On heavy clay (much of Hamilton Mountain and Burlington east of Guelph Line) we add 2 inches of coarse limestone below the screening for lateral drainage. Cutting the base is the single most common shortcut on cheap installs; it produces a lawn that bubbles in year 2 and dips in year 4.

• Turf: we specify SYNLawn Canada and Field Turf Landscape for residential Hamilton/Halton jobs. Both offer 10-plus year warranties and their yarn stands up to Ontario UV cycles.
• Base aggregate: A. Fanning Ltd. (Ancaster), Beaver Valley Stone (Waterdown), Aggregate Recycling Ontario (Stoney Creek) for limestone screenings and 19 mm clear stone.
• Bender board edging: Permaloc aluminum edging (available through Beaver Valley Stone) as our default; composite alternatives on request.
• Certifications: our installers are trained to SGC (Synthetic Grass Council) install standards, and all pet-application infills we use are OMRI or NSF certified for antimicrobial performance.

Where artificial turf is the wrong answer (we will tell you)

• Fully sun-exposed pool surrounds without shade or an irrigated cool-down mister. Turf surface temp can hit 60C on a 30C Hamilton July afternoon on standard non-reflective turf. We upsell heat-reflective yarn or refuse the job.
• Deep-shade north-facing yards under mature canopy. A shade-mix fescue sod outperforms turf here on both aesthetics and cost. We will recommend the sod route.
• Yards with unresolved drainage or clay puddling. Turf on a wet base rots the seams and grows anaerobic bacteria. We do the drainage work first or walk away from the quote.
• Homes with active French drain or weeping-tile issues. The base excavation risks compromising foundation drainage. Fix that first.
